Why don’t you guarantee your hostas beyond 7 days?
We ship nationwide to people we don’t know that live in various growing zones and micro climates. As easy as hostas are to grow, we have no idea if you follow the instructions or where you plant the hosta in relation to what the proper soil, sun, and moisture are. We get very, very, very, very few complaints about our hostas or how they grow. If a hosta dies, which is rare, the plant was likely “over loved.” That means, too much water or fertilizer or deep, deep shade. Another possibility is that the hostas were not covered in the fall with leaves or straw, or this covering was blown off during the winter. The objective of this covering is to prevent the spring “freeze thaw” problems when a hosta can start to grow due to warm soil, then get slowed down or stopped due to cold, then start to grow – over and over. This can potentially stunt or kill a hosta or other plants. Even huge clumps of hostas can die, which happened this year in Minnesota. This is very rare. Proper planting information is provided with your order and on our web site. Some do not follow the instructions. Due to all of the above, I just can’t guarantee our hostas beyond 7 days. There are some springs, like this past spring, that are hard on perennials. I hope you can understand why we can not guarantee a situation we have no control over – including your weather.--> Back to the top
Do you have a catalog?
Yes and no. Yes, in that our website has many more pictures and more information of each hosta than we could ever put in a catalog. No, in that we do not design, print, and mail catalogs. Design, paper, printing, and postage are super expensive. There is not enough profit in our business where we can afford the costs and still remain competitive. How long can I keep your Starter Hosta TC in the cells you ship in?
If you keep the hostas moist and out of direct sun, you can keep them in their cell packs for many weeks. Keep an eye on them so they do not dry out. They might need watering and fertilizing every day, the soiless mix they are in has little to no nutritional value and the growing plants are thirsty!--> Back to the top
Do you alter your photos with Photoshop?
Yes and no. We can remove things like hail or stick damage but we almost never change the color of the leaves. Leaves can change based upon so many factors it is hard to say what the standard is for any hosta. We do not misrepresent these plants.--> Back to the top
What are your favorite hostas for sale?
There are many but I would say Thunderbolt, Rainforest Sunrise and Rainbow's End might be my top three right now.--> Back to the top
How will my hostas be after a flood has passed?
First, I am very sorry to all of those around the country that have suffered from floods, hail, tornadoes, and more. Northeastern Minnesota suffered from the Red River flooding for a long period of time. I have been told that hostas that were under water for 6 months still made it. I find it just a little hard to believe but on the other hand, hostas are tough and adaptable.--> Back to the top
