Tom Carlson, Owner
|
|
HostasDirect's owner, Tom
Carlson, is an avid gardener and
in particular, a hosta lover. He
is a 11 year member of the
American Hosta Society and
Minnesota Hosta Society. Tom has
been gardening since 1967. He
has a great deal of experience
growing hostas, including
planting and maintaining tissue
culture, small pots, and
divisions, in various soil,
light, terrain, and weather
conditions. Tom's garden is in
Roseville, MN, has been on
garden tours, including the pre
tour during the 2000 American
Hosta Society Convention in
Minneapolis, and others. He
maintains over 450 varieties of
hostas at his home. Some of
these hostas are the divisions
that we ship. Three weekends a
year, generally in early June,
he opens his gardens to the
public and sells some of his
hostas and Best Value TC.

Hosta Sale!!! |
(Note, there
will be no additional sales this
year at my home)
Divisions
We are selling 60
divisions (some hard to find
hostas) that have been marked
down from 10% to 40%.
The revised pricing is on
our web site.
Almost all of these
hostas are from 4 to 10 years
old, meaning they have large
root systems!
We need more space for
some other varieties.
The third to fourth week
of August is a good time to
plant perennials.
No, these hostas do not
look 100% perfect after the warm
summer but next spring they
will! We
have large, long boxes to ship
these in. 10
year old Sum and Substance need
these boxes!
Best
Value TC
We are
discounting approximately 10
tissue culture that are
in general from 9 months to 2
years old or more.
The revised pricing is on
our web site.
They have nice root
systems but some, frankly, do
not look as fresh as in May -
but what does?

New Products |
Premium Weeding Tool
I
have been using this tool
since I was 12 years old.
In my mind, it is the
best weeding tool on the
market.
This tool makes a great
gift.
Premium Trowel
This product is ideal for all
gardeners.
This tool is 3" wide and has a
14" handle that can apply a lot
of leverage when digging out
hostas or other plants.
The 8" long, pointed,
sharpened blade is very strong. Made
of Stainless Steel. it is both
durable and attractive.
This tool is ideal for digging
out the crown of a hosta plant
while often not disturbing the
balance of the hosta.
The blade portion is
smaller and curved. It fits
nicely around a division. It's
also efficient
for digging deep holes. |

35W Bridge Collapse in MN |
Our thoughts and
prayers are with anyone touched
by the tragic highway 35W bridge
collapse. The
bridge is located about 3 to 4
miles from
HostasDirect. Each of us has
crossed it thousands of times.
|
 |
Thanks! |
On behalf of all of our workers,
thanks for your support and
business this past year.
Early on was not an easy
time. Our
large, state-of-the-art
greenhouse in Waseca, MN,
collapsed last winter from heavy
snows in February.
We moved from Waseca back
to Roseville. The
disruption resulted in a
packaging problem that is now
fixed. We
are shipping hostas better than
ever since we changed methods in
early June.
Please tell your friends!
It is not only good for
your friends and us, but we need
more business to expand our
hosta selection.
